The Belgian meat products: a wide range of meat products with their own authentic products
With a share of 12% of the total turnover, Belgian meat products are the primary supplier of the food sector. Belgium is traditionally a country where fine meats are produced. This tradition originates from the beginning of the 20th century, with the rise of butcher shops. With the aid of various techniques, they were able to extend the shelf life of fresh meat and furthermore turn it into a very wide range of meat products with a rich array of flavours.
In the meantime, our suppliers of Belgian meat products export over 210,000 tonnes to amongst others the Netherlands, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
In the meat sector alone, Belgian has 180 meat-processing companies, both big and small, each with their own authentic products and flavours.
